Hussein Said Saifan, born in 1963 in Amman, earned his bachelor degree in Accounting, Economics & Statistics from the University of Jordan (UJ) in 1985. He holds a Master's degree in Banking & Finance Sciences / Islamic Banks (1994) as well as a PhD. in Islamic Banks, awarded to him in 2006.
After graduation from UJ, Saifan was appointed to the Jordan Islamic Bank (JIB) staff, which is one of the oldest Islamic banks in the region. At JIB, he was exposed to the different areas of the bank, working in different divisions of the branches of the bank.
He currently holds the position of the Chief Executive Officer / General Manager of Jordan Islamic Bank.
After over 30 years of experience at JIB, Dr. Saifan has acquired extensive knowledge of the Islamic banking and finance practice and procedures.
Saifan presently serves as chairman and member of many committees of Jordan Islamic Bank. In addition, he is a board member of Al Baraka Bank, Lebanon; and Bti (Al Baraka), Morocco.
Furthermore, he served as a board member of Accounting and Auditing Standards at the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI), Bahrain, (2007 – 2015), and is serving as board member of the Board Goverance and Ethics at the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI) in Bahrain since 2016.
Dr. Saifan is also a member of the Jordanian Awqaf Board and serves on the boards of the Financial Security Depository Centre and the Hajj Fund.
Dr. Saifan has also worked in academia as a part time lecturer at a number of academic institutions, including the World Islamic Sciences and Education University, Arab Academy for Financial and Banking Sciences, and the Institute of Banking Studies, a subsidiary of Central Bank of Jordan.
He has participated on many PhDs and Masters Dissertations’ Committees in Yarmouk University, World Islamic Sciences and Education University, and the Arab Academy for Financial and Banking Sciences.
Dr. Saifan has also participated in many conferences, seminars, symposiums and workshops in which he was a speaker.
He is a trainer, where he designed and implemented many training programs in the field of Islamic banking operations and their accountings, auditing and banking and sharia supervision in Jordan, Syria, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Egypt, Sudan, Libya, Tunisia and other countries.
Dr. Saifan is also a licensed issuance manager from the Financial Security Commission in Jordan since 2005.
