Dr. Bassam Talhouni

 

 
Our alumnus of the month of June is the current Minister of Justice, Dr. Bassam Talhouni. Dr. Bassam Talhouni holds a PhD degree in Law from the University of Edinburgh, and two degrees from the University of Jordan: a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in Law.
 
Dr. Talhouni, who is a licensed lawyer by the Jordanian Bar Association since 1991, has held numerous high-profile positions including being a Senator at Upper House of the Jordanian Parliament (Sep 2016 – Oct 2018).
 
He served as the Chairman of the Board Of Trustees of Al Hussein Technical University, Director General of Companies Controller Directorate. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Jordanian Deposits Insurance Corporation, and as a member of the Jordanian Higher Committee of the Certified Public Accountants Profession. Moreover, Talhouni held the position of chairman of the National Corporate Governance Committee, board member of the Jordan Industrial Estates Company, and Minister of Justice (Aug 2013 till Sep 2016).
 
Moreover, Talhouni held several academic and administrative positions at UJ including a member of the Council of the University, member of the School of Law and Assistant Dean of the School of Law at the University.
 
Throughout his career, Dr. Talhouni participated in numerous conferences, seminars, and workshops at the local, regional and global levels, including the UNICITRAL Working Group on Insolvency. He also chaired the annual meeting for the Minister of Justice of the League of Arab Nations as well as several other prestigious events at the local levels.  
 
As an Intellectual Property Rights expert, Dr. Talhouni provided advice to various local and international organizations on IP and other commercial-related matters.
 
He supervised many master's degrees thesis as well as graduation research projects conducted by prospective judges at the Judicial Institute.
