TESTIMONIALS

Rebecca J. Mercado, USA

The Fall Semester 2017 courses that I taught at UJ; Essentials of Public Speaking and Pronunciation and Speech was a very rewarding experience for me measured by the feedback that I received from my students.  When I can see success in a student measuring the distance travelled in combination with students telling me that they benefited from my method and style of teaching, then I know that I have done my job. Students at UJ have expressed that their level of confidence in speaking the English language had improved by the end of the semester as well as stating that they have acquired new skills in problem solving and critical thinking.

Students were able to perform research to defend their positions in debating as well as deliver persuasive speeches to influence their audience’s perspective.  The UJ offers great opportunities for professors to approach their method of teaching with openness to new concepts and technology. With this flexibility, professors are able to negotiate syllabus where the students take an active part in decision making as to choosing among various activities offered by the course to reach their personal goals as well as the target outcomes.

On a personal note, I have learned a lot from the students at UJ. They are vibrant and willing to share cultural experiences as well as take their time to ensure that I had the correct pronunciation of Arabic words (smile).  I will take with me many Arabic phrases that I learned from my students as well as many beautiful classroom memories. The School of Foreign Languages is a great institution to work in with students who show an eagerness to expand their knowledge and commitment to their educational experience.
