Higher Education appoints UJ’s New President: Professor Abdul Karim Al-Qudah

The Higher Education Council headed by the Minister of Higher Education and Research has recently appointed Professor Abdul Karim Qudah as President of The University of Jordan until 2022. His predecessor, Professor Azmi Mahafzah was recently appointed as Minister of Education following a Royal Decree.

Professor Qudah is a Professor of Pediatrics and Pediatric Neurology and is a faculty member in the School of Medicine at UJ. He is a senior consultant at UJ’s hospital. He earned both his B.S and M.S from UJ in 1979 and 1983. He also has a Pediatric Neurology Fellowship from the University of Toronto-Canada.

Professor Qudah has over one hundred studies and conferences regionally and internationally. His work has made a serious impact nationally and regionally. For example, Professor Qudah is not only considered to be the first pediatric neurologist and pediatric clinical neurophysiologist in the country, he is also considered to be the first to discover serious medical cases in Jordan such as the neonatal Guillian-Barre Syndrome in 1988, and was a member of the medical team that reported the a rare familial syndrome called “Macrothrombocytopenia, pschomotor retardation and nephropathy.” Professor Qudah is also considered to be the first to introduce EEG Video monitoring to the country in 1993.

Professor Qudah has made major contributions to the development and growth of UJ’s hospital (UJH). He has managed to raise millions of US dollars from various organizations to the development and advancement of UJH and its units.

Moreover, Professor Qudah also has an extensive administrative experience. He was Vice President of Scientific Research from 2008-2010, General Director of JUH from 2005-2010, Acting Dean of the School of Medicine from August 2009-November 2009, and Vice Dean from 2002-2005 and 1993-1997. Professor Qudah has also held various positions as Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics, the Neuroscience Unit, and the Neurology and Pediatric Department at UJ and UJH.
