I chose the University of Jordan because it is one of the most prestigious universities in Jordan, ranked first locally and ninth in the Middle East, with an impressive global ranking. Moreover, my major, Islamic Banking, is unique and not available in many countries.
My experience at the university has been exceptional in every way. I have had the opportunity to meet friends from different nationalities, which has helped me improve my Arabic and English language skills and learn about diverse cultures. In return, I have also been able to share my Indonesian culture here.
What I admire most about the University of Jordan is its continuous support for students and its commitment to their academic and personal growth. The university has played a significant role in shaping my personality and leadership skills. Additionally, thanks to its strong partnerships with European universities, I was able to secure an Erasmus+ cultural exchange scholarship to study in Germany for one semester.
The university and its faculty members have greatly contributed to developing my leadership and communication skills. I was appointed by the Indonesian embassy as the coordinator of the Indonesian community, serving as a bridge between the university and the embassy. This role has allowed me to organize events that aim to strengthen cultural and social ties.
My advice to international students is to make the most of their time at the university by engaging in various activities, such as volunteering at the Community Service Center, studying in the university library, and participating in sports activities. Finding language partners is also a great way to enhance language skills.
Personally, I spend a lot of time at the American Corner in the university library, where I have made many friends. I am actively involved in coordinating events for the Indonesian community, assisting new students in adjusting to life in Jordan, playing badminton, and volunteering to support refugees and the less fortunate.
Among the places I have visited, I particularly enjoyed the Dead Sea and the historical Islamic sites such as Karak and Shobak castles. Reading about these places in books is one thing, but seeing them in real life is truly fascinating.
My stay in Jordan and my time at the University of Jordan have been a unique cultural and social experience. I have gained deep insight into Arab customs and traditions, especially the values of generosity and honor, which I deeply admire. At the same time, I have been able to share my culture with my Arab friends and form lifelong friendships. It has truly been an unforgettable experience!
