Under the patronage of the Minister
of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Wajih Owais, the
University of Jordan (UJ) on Saturday, December 16th, held a grand
ceremony to honor faculty members for their outstanding research.
The honoring ceremony featured 35
faculty members who ranked among the world's top 2% researchers, according to
the Stanford University Ranking of the World Scientists, researchers from
different disciplines whose research was highly cited during the last 5 years
in Scopus database, and researchers who were listed in the Clarivate Highly
Cited Researchers list.
Top 2% List of World

22 UJ faculty members were ranked
among the world's top 2% researchers, according to a Stanford University

Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers List
Moreover, the Clarivate Analytics International
(formerly Thomson Reuter) has named two University of Jordan (UJ) professors
Ibrahim Al-Jarrah and Hossam Faris, among the list of Highly Cited Researchers
2021 in the field of Computer Science.
The list of Highly Cited Researchers
in Computer Science included 110 scholars from all around the world,
demonstrating the significance of their scholarly literature and publications,
its originality and broad impact.
The 2021 list contains about 6,600
Highly Cited Researchers; 3,800 in 21 fields of the sciences and social
sciences and about 2,800 Highly Cited Researchers identified as having
exceptional performance across several fields.
According to Clarivate™, the list
focuses on contemporary research achievement: only highly cited papers in science
and social sciences journals indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection
during the 11- year period 2010 to 2020 were surveyed.
Furthermore, highly cited papers are
defined as those that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and publication
year. This percentile-based selection method removes the citation advantage of
older papers relative to recently published ones, since papers are weighed
against others in the same annual cohort.
Across all fields, only three
researchers from Jordan were in this year's list. As for the Highly Cited
Researchers list in the Computer Science field, for the first time, the list
included researchers from Jordan; Dr. Ibrahim Al-Jarrah and Dr. Hossam Faris.
In a speech on behalf of the honored
scientists, Professor Shaher Al-Momani pointed out that the spread of the
culture of scientific research and interest in innovation and creativity and
the conduct of high quality research, undoubtedly contributes to solving
problems of national priority and achieving comprehensive national
development.
Al-Momani presented pressing issues
of concern to Jordanian researchers, pointing out to the need to promote
scientific research in the Jordanian universities, and update legislation
governing research, to combat scientific publication in scientific journals and
conferences that do not adhere to international arbitration and publishing
standards.
