Experts, academics, and
officials in the health sector agreed at the University of Jordan (UJ) on
Thursday on the urgent need to establish a body with a national and regional
orientation concerned with scientific research, training, and providing higher academic
programs in the field of public and health policies operating under UJ's
umbrella.
This came during a meeting held
by the Center for Strategic Studies (CSS) under the patronage of UJ President
Prof. Nathir Obaidat and moderated by Vice President for International Affairs,
Quality and Accreditation, and the Director of the Center, Prof. Zaid Eyadat.
The participants also pointed
out the need to adopt the most appropriate legal framework for this entity in a
way that gives it sufficient flexibility to play a national and regional role
in public health policy-making and providing the national health sector with
reliable data through training and applied scientific research in the areas of
public health.
The symposium, which was
attended by officials, experts and specialists in the field of health from the
Senate, the Ministry of Health, the Royal Medical Services, the public
Jordanian universities, the King Hussein Cancer Center and the University of
Jordan, discussed academic programs that the institute may include, the
required academic degrees, and the practical and legal steps related to the
stages of its establishment.
