Faris Al Awaisheh, a student at the University of Jordan (UJ), has won the gold medal in the 5th edition of West Asia Championship for the Under-21 Kata/Karate category, which was held in Sharjah, UAE, from November 29 to December 2.

Al Awaisheh secured the gold medal after competing with Iraqi national team player Mohammed Arkan in the final match, earning a score of 23.5 compared to Arkan's 22.7.

It is worth noting that Al Awaisheh was admitted to UJ's School of Rehabilitation Sciences this year under the sports excellence program.

UJ expresses pride in Al Awaisheh and in all students who bring honor to Jordan through their accomplishments, and reaffirms the University's support for his athletic journey as he represents both the University and Jordan in international forums.

The West Asia Championship, held in Sharjah, featured around 500 male and female participants representing 10 countries.

The Championship is a regional competition that brings together karate practitioners from countries in the West Asia region, which includes countries in the Middle East and parts of South Asia.

The championship is recognized by regional and international karate governing bodies, such as the Asian Karate Federation (AKF) and the World Karate Federation (WKF).
