The University of Jordan (UJ) is now a member of the International Sustainable Campus Network (ISCN), a global non-profit organization established in 2007 that brings together more than 30 universities from around the world.
ISCN provides a platform for higher education institutions to exchange knowledge, ideas, and best practices in advancing sustainable campus operations. Its Charter outlines key principles for members, including institutional leadership, embedding sustainability into governance, teaching, and research, and creating inclusive and resilient campus environments.
The network also promotes collaboration with industry, governments, and civil society, while supporting global efforts to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Vice President for Accreditation, Global Rankings, and Sustainability, Prof. Faleh Sawair, stated that the membership is important to UJ. “It reflects our commitment to sustainability in education, research, and community engagement,” he said, noting that the step will strengthen the University’s partnerships with global experts, build the capacity of faculty and staff through specialized training, and provide opportunities to showcase UJ’s best practices internationally.
Through this membership, UJ will be able to participate in global dialogue on sustainability, gain recognition through the annual ISCN Awards, and reinforce its role as a regional leader in advancing the SDGs. This move further enhances the University’s international profile and underscores its dedication to building a sustainable future for Jordan and the wider world.
