UJ Organizes Largest Artificial Intelligence Event in Jordan

The University of Jordan (UJ) held its Artificial Intelligence Week from 14-18, September 2025. The event was organized by the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (CIS) Student Branch at UJ in collaboration with the King Abdullah II School of Information Technology (KASIT) and the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center. With the participation of more than 450 students, academics, and professionals from across Jordan, the event was the largest of its kind in the Kingdom.

AI Week aimed to empower youth, bridge the gap between academia and industry, and showcase the real-world applications of artificial intelligence by transforming theoretical knowledge into innovative and practical solutions. The event emphasized hands-on learning, industry collaboration, and knowledge exchange among universities, technology companies, and government sectors.

The first day featured a series of specialized training workshops designed to equip participants with applied AI skills. These included a Hackathon Project Building workshop led by UJ’s Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center, which focused on creativity, teamwork, and rapid prototyping; a Computer Vision workshop presented by Qafza Technology Company, covering image processing, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), and automation use cases; a Voice Agents workshop by Labiba AI, highlighting pre-trained models, conversation design, and workflow integration; and an AI Prompt Engineering workshop delivered by Shai AI, demonstrating advanced techniques for optimizing AI-generated outputs.

The second and third days of AI Week were dedicated to a Hackathon on digital security powered by artificial intelligence, encouraging participants to develop innovative cybersecurity solutions. The fourth day featured a high-level AI conference held under the patronage of UJ President Prof. Nathir Obeidat, which brought together experts, academics, and industry leaders to discuss key topics such as artificial intelligence in entrepreneurship, its integration with data and the Internet of Things (IoT), human–AI collaboration, ethical considerations, and future visions for responsible AI use.

During the conference, Prof. Obeidat described AI as a driver of technological innovation, opening new horizons while raising ethical considerations. He announced upcoming UJ programs in quantum physics and quantum computing and called for increased research investment to benefit industry, agriculture, medicine, and the humanities.

Dean of KASIT, Prof. Basel Mahafzah, emphasized UJ’s guidelines for the responsible use of AI in education, research, and administration, while Dr. Reem Al-Fayez, Director of the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center, highlighted the event’s role in linking education with innovation. IEEE CIS Advisor Dr. Ali Al-Rawdan discussed emerging trends in agentic AI, and other speakers explored AI’s applications in entrepreneurship, analytics, IoT, and competitiveness.
A highlight of the event was the recognition of IEEE CIS UJ as the Best CIS Student Branch Worldwide, placing both the University of Jordan and the Kingdom on the global artificial intelligence map. The conference also included panel discussions, exhibitions, hackathon showcases, and sponsor recognition, led by platinum partner ProgressSoft.

AI Week concluded on its fifth day with field visits to leading companies and AI centers in Jordan, reinforcing the transition of artificial intelligence from academic discourse to practical application and supporting Jordan’s broader shift toward digital education and innovation in higher education.
