Under the patronage of the University
of Jordan (UJ) President, on Tuesday, March 8th, the Embassy of Japan in Jordan
and Centre for Strategic Studies (CSS) at the University of Jordan (UJ)
organized a seminar entitled “Democracy Diplomacy in Japan’s Foreign Policy and
its Implications for Security”.
The seminar featured political
scientist on Japan’s foreign policy and Associate Professor at the Graduate
School of Law at Hitotsubashi University, Dr. Maiko Ichihara, as a keynote
speaker on the topic.
The keynote speech covered key aspects
of Japan’s foreign policy focusing on democracy, one of the important concepts
to understand international politics as well as its background and current
situation including security environment in Asia.
Ambassador of Japan to Jordan,
SHIMAZAKI Kaoru, stated that the Japan-Jordan relations has been distinguished
as strategic partnership, which means that the both countries always work
together for the shared vision of peace and stability in the world and free and
open international order.
In turn, CSS Director Prof. Zaid Eyadat
emphasized the importance of the democracy aspect in understanding Japan’s
foreign policy and security environment in Asia. Eyadat also affirmed that the
lecture and the discussion followed greatly contributed to deepening UJ's
scholars and students understanding on Japanese foreign policy and its
security.
